My Worst Performance, Yet

Well, my sister wasn’t able to sing with me tonight.  She had too much work to do.  She canceled at the beginning of this week and I had to figure out the show by myself.  I wish she was self employed like I am.  To top it all off, my computer got the Southwestern Airlines Virus and I lost all my music files as well as pictures and other documents.  I had to learn new songs because Kim and I were going to sing duets, and since she wasn’t going to be there, I needed to learn solos.   I tried to find songs that would work pretty quickly since I only had a few days to learn the words.  Dorothy gave me lots of suggestions, but unfortunately, they weren’t all songs I knew.  I should have told her no, but I love her to death and I guess I tried too hard to please her and do the songs she wanted.  After spending as much time as I could devote to memorizing new songs and learning how the arrangements worked, I went to perform.  I didn’t have a good CD player, or a CD for that matter, so I thought maybe I could use my laptop.  It is a small hall, and the laptop is plenty loud here at home.

To make a long story short, I forgot all the words and I couldn’t hear the accompaniment.  The audience was forgiving and kind, but I was terribly embarrassed.  I’m sure they won’t ask me to sing there again!  I need to buy a good sound system before I try that again.  I also need to have some solos ready as a backup for anything.  No fun to learn at the last minute.  All you fellow musicians, I hope you are better than I am at saying NO and sticking to it when someone asks you to do something that’s too much.
